Yesterday, the Westchester County Board of Legislators unanimously passed a ban on so-called “conversion therapy” for LGBTQ youth.

LeGaL Board Member Kristen Browde testified before the Weschester County Board of Legislators, urging them to join Erie County, Albany and New York City by voting to ban this barbaric practice. Protecting our most vulnerable is a New York value.

“If you think ‘conversion therapy’ is not a #Westchester problem, you’re wrong. If you do a google search you will find there are places that do this kind of ‘therapy’ right near us.” — Kristen Browde

The bill is expected to be signed into law mid-month by Westchester County Executive George Latimer. Even Republican legislators agreed protecting our children is the highest priority.

Every leading medical organization has unanimously and unequivocally recognized that the identities of LGBT people should not be targeted for change. Few practices hurt LGBTQ youth more than attempts to change their sexual orientation or gender identity through so-called “conversion therapy,” which can be deadly. — Eric Lesh, Executive Director, LeGaL
