As we take to the streets to fight for racial justice, it is critical we remember that Black Lives Matter includes Black trans lives.

According to the Philadelphia Office of LGBT Affairs, Dominique “Rem’mie” Fells was found murdered on June 11th. On June 9th another black trans woman was murdered in Ohio. Her name was Riah Milton. She was only 25 years-old.

LGBT Bar Association of New York, (LeGaL) President Kristen Prata Browde”

“The murder of trans women, particularly black trans women, is a pandemic that has been horrifying and heartbreaking for years. These incidents only reinforce the obvious conclusion that not nearly enough has been done to address The deep-seated bigotry that devalues trans lives.”

“Not only do the murders have to be fully investigated, we have to do all we can to make sure that trans women have what they need to live In safety”

“One obvious point that needs to be made is that the United States Supreme Court is currently considering whether transgender Americans are entitled to the same protections as every other American. The answer cannot be Symbolized by what we saw in Philadelphia and Cincinnati.”
